“I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary. I had simply failed to notice how extraordinary it was.” …
This book has been lying in my shelf for the past 3 years, it was only during the pandemic that I decided that it was high-time I turned its pages. And now, Ransom Riggs has become my favorite author! His way of words not only let you imagine a world that (sadly) doesn’t exist, but also helps you to imagine this world being your own.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is the first book in an enchanting series of six books by Ransom Riggs. It’s full of mystery, action, humor and some men with no pupils, it will catch your hearts and will definitely force you to buy the 5 other books in the series!
What makes this book really special are the featured, vintage photographs that Ransom Riggs collected and incorporated in his books. They add to the beauty of the story and illustrates the characters for the readers.
The story revolves around Jacob Portman an awkward and “peculiar” 16-year-old. While grieving his beloved grandfather Abraham Portman, he tries to convince everyone around him that he is not crazy when he says that he saw a monster in the backyard of his grandfather’s home on the night Jacob found him dead. While his dad and his family try to do away with all of Abraham’s furniture and personal items, Jacob finds the key to solve the mystery of his grandfather’s sudden death, and also proof that the stories he used to tell Jacob may have been true…
With the help of his psychiatrist Dr Golan, he convinces his parents to let him go to Cairnholm Island in Wales, where he believes, lies the truth to his grandfather’s past. Little does he know that the deeper he delves in this path of discovery, the darker the path itself becomes…
This book will bring dreams and reality and time and space together. It will make you realize that the meaning of family goes deeper than just sharing the same blood, it also comes down to love, support and mutual understanding and acceptance of one another. And of course, this book will show you, that there are “so many worlds yet to discover” (just a little reference to the book itself !)
I do hope you try reading this amazing book!
